What is Geography?
A study of what physical, human and environmental Geography is.
Students also study the world globe and identify where continents and countries are situated. |
Students study Weather and Climate.
Students study the differences between weather and climate; weather observation; cloud cover and wind directions; rain; weather vanes; air temperature and microclimates. |
Map Skills
Students are introduced to the skill of making use of maps in Geography. |

How we assess students’ understanding in the classroom:
- Using varied questioning methods.
- Retrieval techniques
- Structured written work including map skills
How we support learning:
- Written and verbal feedback on all assessments including targets for improvement
- Providing more detailed written guidance (scaffolding) for lower ability students
- Offering teacher support in the classroom as required
- Liaise with the SEN department where necessary.
- Communicate with parents to support the student’s development.
- Provide personalised support outside the classroom as necessary
- Higher ability students are provided with extension tasks pertaining to the topic being studied. The teacher will encourage these students to consider the subject matter through more complex material to enable them to produce work of a higher standard.
How parents can support learning:
- Encourage discussion at home
- Support homework activities
- Provide access to books and documentaries on the topic being studied.
- Incorporate visits to places of geographical interest during school holidays
