How we assess students’ understanding in the classroom:

  • Using varied questioning methods.
  • Retrieval techniques
  • Structured written work including map skills

How we support learning:

  • Written and verbal feedback on all assessments including targets for improvement
  • Providing more detailed written guidance (scaffolding) for lower ability students
  • Offering teacher support in the classroom as required
  • Liaise with the SEN department where necessary.
  • Communicate with parents to support the student’s development.
  • Provide personalised support outside the classroom as necessary
  • Higher ability students are provided with extension tasks pertaining to the topic being studied. The teacher will encourage these students to consider the subject matter through more complex material to enable them to produce work of a higher standard.

How parents can support learning:

  • Encourage discussion at home
  • Support homework activities
  • Provide access to books and documentaries on the topic being studied.
  • Incorporate visits to places of geographical interest during school holidays
